The increase reflected stronger oil prices and improved refining margins, although the company also faced higher expenses, lower external volumes and disruptions affecting operations in the Middle East.
The oil major reported earnings of $3.72 per share.
Adjusted earnings reached approximately $17.5 billion, or $4.23 per share.
ExxonMobil also generated $25.7 billion in cash flow from operations and asset sales during the quarter, highlighting the company's strong cash-generating capacity amid volatile energy markets.
Higher crude prices and refining margins contributed to the stronger results.
However, the company's earnings should not be attributed exclusively to geopolitical developments, as multiple operating and market factors influenced its performance.
