Goldman Sachs, BOA Funding Anti-LGBTQ Groups

Lou Ferreira and Khatondi Soita Wepukhulu of the UK media outlet openDemocracy reported that Bank of America (BOA) and Goldman Sachs have funded anti-LGBTIQ groups like Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) fighting to roll back civil rights for the queer community worldwide.

Photo Insert: The Alliance Defending Freedom is also funded by US billionaires like Paul Singer and Harlan Crow, both of whom are reportedly behind luxury vacations for rightwing US Supreme Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, and special privileges for their wives.

From 2017 to 2020, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation handed out more than $390,000 to eight such organizations that have resisted same-sex marriage laws and anti-discrimination protections for LGBTIQ people, challenged contraception and abortion access and sought to ban gender-affirming healthcare for trans people.

ADF is also funded by US billionaires like Paul Singer and Harlan Crow, both of whom are reportedly behind luxury vacations for rightwing US Supreme Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, and special privileges for their wives.

Ferreira and Wepukhulu also uncovered donations by the Shell Oil Company Foundation and the Motorola Solutions Foundation, as well as charitable foundations of the US Chamber of Commerce, and Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America lobby groups.

The six groups donated $1.3 million to anti-rights groups over three years, publicly available US financial filings showed. They are all registered as nonprofits in the US and must disclose some information about their income and spending.
