Major miso producer Marukome Co. announced that it is initiating a voluntary recall of 107,726 units of miso after one of its products was found to be contaminated with an insect suspected to be a cockroach, reported Mainichi Japan.

Marukome, headquartered in Nagano city, stated that there have been no reports of health issues thus far.

A customer who purchased the product raised concerns about a foreign substance in it. Upon inspection by the company, a portion of an insect, presumed to be a cockroach, was discovered to be mixed in.
Despite inspecting the production line, the company was unable to ascertain the source of contamination. Marukome expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to customers, business partners, and other concerned parties.
