U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani has issued a preliminary injunction ordering the federal government to restore Medicaid funding for the nation’s largest abortion provider, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Trump’s signature tax-break and spending-cut legislation included reductions that targeted Planned Parenthood. More than 20 mostly Democratic-led states — including California, New York, and Connecticut — sued the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in July over the funding cuts.
The money has remained in limbo as a separate legal battle over the funding plays out.
“The district court again recognized the ‘defund’ law for what it is: unconstitutional and dangerous,” a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Federation of America said in a statement.
HHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment but previously said that “states should not be forced to fund organizations that have chosen political advocacy over patient care.”
