Prominent Muslim journalist Mehdi Hasan has opted to quit MSNBC instead of accepting a demotion that resulted in the loss of his regular Sunday night program on the network, as reported by David Bauder for the Associated Press (AP).

During the end of his Sunday show, Hasan announced, “I’ve decided to look for a new challenge. This is not just my final episode of ‘The Mehdi Hasan Show,’ it’s my last day at MSNBC.”
In November, the network had announced Hasan's loss of the weekly show after three years but would continue as an analyst and fill-in anchor.
The decision led to a petition campaign in protest by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, with US Rep. Ilhan Omar expressing concerns about canceling the show amid a rise in anti-Muslim bigotry.
Hasan's final show included an interview with Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photographer discussing the dangers of working in Gaza during Israeli military operations.
Hasan, who previously worked at Al Jazeera English and the Intercept, did not provide details about his future plans. MSNBC plans to replace Hasan by increasing the weekend hours of Ayman Mohyeldin, another Muslim journalist.s
