Germany's southern capital, Munich, is taking legal action against the organizers of an alternative Oktoberfest beer festival in Dubai, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.

The famous Munich tradition was canceled for a second time in a row this year due to coronavirus restrictions. However, the "Oktoberfest goes Dubai" event is still on and advertises some 30 marquees over 400,000 square meters, with a "hygiene concept" to keep visitors safe from infection.
The motto gives the misguided impression that the event was moved from its usual Bavarian home to Dubai, the Munich business department said. The city has demanded a cease-and-desist declaration in which the organizers in Dubai agree to no longer advertise their event with the Oktoberfest in Munich.
"In the view of the state capital of Munich, it is shocking that third parties have taken the cancelation as an opportunity to enrich themselves, by exploiting the good reputation of the Oktoberfest globally," said Oktoberfest boss Clemens Baumgaertner. The aim of the legal action is to protect the good name of Munich's Oktoberfest, he said.
