Elon Musk's super PAC, America PAC, disclosed more than $800,000 in spending last month to support Republican Senate and House candidates in competitive races, with much of the spending directed toward Texas and Maine, Aaron Navarro reported for CBS News.

The August spending could represent the beginning of a larger effort by Musk, who spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates in 2024.

Musk has authorized America PAC to spend more than $100 million to support Republicans in the November midterm elections, according to The New York Times.

America PAC's August independent expenditures included $247,595 in Texas, $170,224.29 in Maine, $105,675 in Ohio, $91,458.50 in New Hampshire, $54,600 in Iowa, $25,605 in Michigan and $17,235 in Alaska.

Republican candidates and incumbents in competitive House districts in Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Wisconsin also received support through America PAC spending.

House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that he met with Musk during a campaign swing in Texas, where several House districts are competitive as well as a closely watched Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico.

Johnson declined to say whether he discussed campaign spending with Musk.

America PAC spent more than $239 million supporting Republican candidates in 2024. Federal Election Commission filings show Musk was the largest individual political donor of the 2024 election cycle.
