PSE Index Bounces Back

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today recovered its Monday losses, with five of the sub-indices posting gains on bargain hunting, to finish the day with a 68.75-point or 1.008 percent increase to 6,588.90 points.

Market bellwether SM Investments rose by P6 to P930.50, while Ayala Corp gained P14 to P670, and JG Summit went up by P1.20 to P49.80 to propel the holding firms to a hefty 1.21 percent rise.


Ayala Corp was the second most active stock with trades of P323 million after BDO Unibank, which traded P427 million as it rose by 60 centavos to P136.40. Globe Telecom was third most active with trades of P268 million as it gained P20 to P1,721.



Financials rose by 0.51 percent, industrials by 1.005 percent, services by 0.46 percent, and property by 0.94 percent. Mining and oil lost 1.27 percent. Value turnover amounted to P5.17 billion with 94 gainers, 91 losers, and 53 shares unchanged.


Only two of the Top 20 stocks posted losses, those being Bloomberry, which went down by 6 centavos to P11, and Metro Pacific, which closed 2 centavos lower to P4.43.

Concepcion Industrial was the top gainer with a 16.79 percent gain to P16, up by P2.30 while Axelum Resources went up by 6.03 percent or 15 centavos to P2.53. Monday's top gainer, Megawide, went down by 8 centavos to P3.86 with a high of P4 and a low of P3.81.


Property giants SM Prime and Ayala Land went up respectively by 40 centavos to P33.40 and 30 centavos to P26.50.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

The other gainers were Bank of PI, up P1.40 to P104.10, Jollibee Foods, up P3.40 to P226, PLDT, up P12 to P1,219, GT Capital, up P20 to P495, and Metrobank, up 20 centavos to P59.


The other stocks in the green were ICTSI, which went up a peso to P210, Apollo up P0.001 to P0.029, AgriNurture, up 7 centavos to P7.40, Emperador, up 15 centavos to P20.95, Monde Nissin, up by 35 centavos P8.79, and Universal Robina, up by P1.50 to P153.
