PSE Index Closes A Tad Lower

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) today closed a tad lower to 6,676.04 points, down 16.61 points or 0.25 percent on cue from other foreign markets. But, value turnover was a third lower on a lack of compelling economic news to boost trade.

Financials and services were up by 1.11 percent and 0.10 percent respectively while holding firms declined by 0.58 percent, industrials by 0.28 percent, mining and oil by 0.72 percent, and property by 0.73 percent.


Total trades amounted to p4. 19 billion with 75 gainers, 101 losers, and 54 shares unchanged.



SM Prime was the most active stock with trades of P332.9 million as it lost 44 centavos to P36.05 while Ayala Land, the fourth most active with P201 million also went down by 5 centavos to P28.


Abacore Holdings surged by a hefty 5.51 percent with trades of P241 million on rumors of big funds coming in as it closed at P2.49, up by 13 centavos. Jollibee Foods was the second most active with trades of P246 million as it closed P3 higher to P248.80.

Emperador went down on profit-taking to close 5 centavos lower to P20.80. It had surged for the past trading days on reports of its inclusion in the Straits Index of Singapore where it is also listed, the first Philippine firm in the Singapore Exchange.


Solar Philippines also lost 3 centavos to p1. 60 while ACEN went down by 36 centavos to P7.28. Market bellwether SM Investments gained P20 to P870 bucking profit-taking, where it hit a low of P853.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

BDO Unibank and Bank of PI powered the Financials to a gain above one percent as they closed respectively higher by P2.20 to P130 and 95 centavos to P96.95. The banks have reported higher earnings and lower loss provisions for the first half of the year. Security Bank, however, lost P1.40 to P88.90 as investors cashed in their gains.


PLDT went up by P21 to P1,690 while Globe and Converge lost p10 to P2,184 and 8 centavos to P17.80 respectively. ABS-CBN rose by 5 centavos to P9.20 while Holcim Cement gained 4 centavos to P4.56.
