PSE Index In Big Surge

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a big surge on bargain hunting, with value turnover just a shade from its daily turnover as investors went back to the market, pushing shares higher.

With help from buy-back regimes from listed companies, the market closed with a respectable gain of 68.21 points or 1.07 percent to 6,466.85 points.


Only the mining and oil index posted a decline, down by 0.15 percent while financials had a hefty rise of 2.64 percent, bannered by BDO Unibank which emerged as the most active stock with P625 million as it rose by 4.4 percent to P142, a gain of P6.



SM Prime was the second most active with P441 million as it closed at P110.90, an increase of P1.90. Aside from the financials, the industrials rose by 0.91 percent, holding firms by 0.27 percent, services, by 0.19 percent, and property by 0.60 percent.


Total value turnover amounted to P5.24 billion with 84 gainers, 92 losers and 49 shares unchanged. Emperador and market bellwether SM Investments were both unchanged at P21.05 and P910.50, respectively.

Among the gainers were ICTSI up by 2.20 to P202.40, Ayala Land, up by 5 centavos to P24.75, Jollibee Foods, up by P7.60 to P243.60, Ayala Corp, up by P10 to P613.50, Wilcon Depot, up by 30 centavos to P25.50, Monde Nissin, up by 28 centavos to P8.41, Golden Haven, up by P29.50 to P839.50, Century Pacific, up by 15 centavos to P26, and ACEN Corp, up by 5 centavos to 5.24.

The losers were Metro Pacific, down by 2 centavos to P4.89, Universal Robina, down by P1.10 to P132.90, PLDT, down by P8 to P1,302, GT Capital, down by P6 to P499.
