PSE Index Still Down

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today continued its decline in another small dose of loss to finish at 6,469 points, down by 10.21 points or 0.16 percent with just a brief fling at a higher posting at opening and a few minutes later.

Half of the sub-indices were up and the other three down but the index-heavy holding firms accounted for the index decline.


Holding firms, with market bellwether SM Investments closing P9 lower to P890, lost 0.62 percent while property and industrials respectively went down by 0.49 percent and 0.16 percent.



Financials gained 0.40 percent with BDO Unibank emerging most active with trades of p1. 064 billion as it rose by 20 centavos to P130.20 while SM Prime was the third most active with trades of P307 million as it lost 15 centavos to P32.85.


SM Investments was the second most active with P665 million in trades.

Mining and oil posted a hefty 1.90 percent rise as investors bought mining issues on the forthcoming uptick in metal prices with the economic recovery in China and others. Manila Mining A and B shares were the biggest gainers with identical gains of 11.11 percent.


The other mining shares that rose were Lepanto, up 7.02 percent to P0.122, up by P0.008, Atlas Mining, up by 6.15 percent, and Philex Mining up by 6.13 percent to P3.45, a gain of 20 centavos.

PLDT rose P9 to P1,260 and ICTSI by a peso to P211, leading to a 0.19 percent rise in the services sub-sector.


The other gainers were Bank of PI, up P1.65 to P101.50, Metrobank, up 5 centavos to P58.35, Meralco, up P2 to P318, Ayala Corp, up a peso to P648, Apex Mining, up 17 centavos to P2.60, Monde Nissin, up 10 centavos to P9.45 and Universal Robina, up P1.10 to P143.10.

The losers in the top 20 active stocks were Century Pacific, down 35 centavos to P24.05, DM Consunji, down 54 centavos to P10.78, Jollibee Foods, down P4 to P212.20, Solar Philippines, down 6 centavos to P1.68, AgriNurture, down 29 centavos to P6.91, and GT Capital down P15 to P485.
