PSE Index Surges

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today surged back to 6,613.50 points, up by 71.59 points or 1.09 percent though trades remain muted.

Bank stocks sizzled pushing the financials up by 1.9 percent with BDO Unibank emerging as the most active stock with trades of P484 million as it posted a hefty rise by 3.25 percent to P146.30, a gain of P4.60. Bank of PI rose by P1.10 to P114.50, Metrobank went up by P1.25 to P57.25, and Security Bank up by P1.80 to P86,5.
Jollibee Foods was second most active with P36 million in trades closing P3.80 up to P28 while Ayala Land was third with trades of P484 million, gaining 95 centavos higher to P27.
Market bellwether SM Investments gained 2.06 percent to P940, up by P19 to push holding firms higher by 1.07 percent. Industrials rose by 0.44 percent, property by 1.29 percent and mining and oil went up by 0.49 percent.
The services sector was the only loser, down by 0.27 as ICTSI lost P1.60 to P206.
Value turnover amounted to just p4. 5 billion, down a fourth with 99 gainers, 81 losers, and 44 shares unchanged. Among the gainers were SM Prime, up by 10 centavos to P33.10, Ayala Corp, up P8 to P28, Globe Telecom, up P43 to P1,890, Aboitiz Power, up 30 centavos to P36.10, GT Capital, up P5.50 to P535.50, Aboitiz Equity, up 40 centavos to P53.70, Emperador, up 5 centavos to P20.95, and Meralco, up P1.40 to P351.20.
Wilcon Depot lost 40 centavos to P24.10, PLDT, down by P6 to P1,300, AgriNurture down 18 centavos to P4.90. Universal Robina and Monde Nissan were unchanged at P131 and P8.72, respectively.
