PSE Index Up In Wild Trades

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today went on a wild ride with high opening trades and a sell down that later on gravitated to an increase as investors bought stocks that suffered from oversold positions, to close 48.75 points higher or 0.71 percent to 6,934.11 points.

Value turnover was a hefty p9.878 billion with losers ahead of gainers, 109 to 85 with 49 shares unchanged as bargain hunters sought oversold stocks with the sub indices' performance even at three losers and gainers apiece.


The financials were down by 0.27 percent, industrials by 0.57 percent, and mining by 0.07 percent, while the holding firms went up by 1.51 percent, services by 0.24 percent, and property by 0.66 percent.


Monde emerged the most active with trades of p1.773 billion as it closed 80 centavos lower to P17.83, while AC Energy declined by 40 centavos to P11.30 with p915 million in trades.


Ayala Land was the third most active stock with a 5 centavo increase to p33.05 while PLDT lost p46 to P1,631.

Globe and Converge posted respective gains of p24 to P2,964 and 85 centavos to P38, while market bellwether SM Investments added P10 to close at P987. BDO Unibank and Metrobank had differing performances, with the former down by 20 centavos to P113.40 and the latter up by 5 centavos to P43.95.
