The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today was upbeat, with losing sub-indices surging at the close for a hefty rise of 62.96 points or 0.96 percent to 6,593.16 points.

But the market breadth remained thin with Prime Media offering the best story for the day following its disclosure on the extent of its joint venture with ABS-CBN.


Prime rose by 14.5 percent to P2.29 up by 29 centavos to emerge as the biggest gainer, after informing the PSE of its partnership with the abs on the production and distribution of radio content.



Financials rose by 0.69 percent, industrials by 0.36 percent, holding firms by 0.50 percent, services by 1.82 percent, mining and oil by 0.93 percent and property by 0.96 percent. Value turnover, though, remained below average with just 3.29 billion, almost half lower.


There were 93 gainers, 80 losers, and 43 shares unchanged.

Ayala Corp was the most active stock with P437 million as it gained by 6 to P692 followed by market bellwether SM Investments, which was unchanged at P920 on P320 million in trades.


Third most active was SM Prime with P266 million as its share price went up by 25 centavos to P34.25.

Among the gainers were Ayala Land, up 60 centavos to P26.50, Universal Robina, up by P3.60 to P148, ICTSI, up P8 to P203, Jollibee Foods up P4.40 to P237, AgriNurture, up 4 centavos to P7.36, PLDT, up P11 to P1,230, Bank of PI, up P2.50 to P103, JG Summit, up P1 to P51, Metrobank, up 25 centavos to P58.40, and Emperador up 5 centavos to P21.10.


Market & economy: Market economist in suit and tie reading reports and analysing charts in the office located in the financial district.

The losers were Petron Corp, down 65 centavos to P4, Bloomberry, down 8 centavos to P10.88, Century Pacific, down 10 centavos to P23, Wilcon Depot down 5 centavos to P26.95, Monde Nissin, down 24 centavos to P8.52, and Ayala REIT down 65 centavos to P33.
