Russia and Ukraine escalated fighting, with Moscow hitting Kyiv and Kyiv responding with assaults on southern Russian areas, just hours after Donald Trump struck a positive tone on prospects for a ceasefire deal, Bloomberg News reported.

Meanwhile, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is meeting Russian officials in Abu Dhabi, as Trump seeks to inject momentum into the process despite the initial Russian statement that the “revised” peace plan crafted by US and Ukrainian negotiators in Geneva was a “non-starter.”
The 28-point “peace plan” that the White House claimed was a product of US efforts was eventually shown to be a mere translation of Russian demands, which Trump did not attempt to alter.
The European Union (EU) objected to the purported Trump plan as a total sellout to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who invaded Ukraine and vowed to win his campaign in three days.
