The agreement paves the way for the visionary development and operation of a cutting-edge 10MWac Solar Facility in Magalang, Pampanga, marking a significant stride toward sustainable energy solutions.
The partnership between CREC and PELCO I was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on July 18, 2023.
Under the provisions of this landmark agreement, CREC will spearhead the development, construction, and operation of a pioneering 12-hectare solar facility located in Barangay Escaler, Magalang, Pampanga.
This innovative solar facility is designed to directly cater to the power demands within PELCO I's franchise area, bypassing the need for a traditional grid connection.
Upon the signing of the MOA, both CREC and PELCO I will engage in the requisite procedures to secure essential documents and clearances from the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the Department of Energy.
Subsequently, they will seek the approval of the Energy Regulatory Commission, a pivotal step prior to the commencement of operations.
"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to PELCO I for embarking on this transformative journey towards renewable energy adoption. We are honored that they chose to collaborate with us on this transformative endeavor," expressed Mr. Oliver Y. Tan, President and CEO of CREC.
"Beyond our shared commitment to environmental stewardship, this partnership promises to provide PELCO I and its consumers with competitive pricing that remains resilient against market fluctuations," he added.
This upcoming solar power plant marks a pivotal addition to CREC's existing investments in Pampanga, complementing their substantial 115MW solar farm in Arayat-Mexico. Aligned with its strategic vision, CREC aims to augment the renewable energy generation capacity by a remarkable 1 gigawatt annually over the next five years.
"Realizing this embedded power plant has been a cherished aspiration at PELCO I, and we extend our gratitude to the dedicated Citicore team and all those who contributed to materializing this remarkable achievement," acknowledged Mr. Darius L. Cunanan, President of the PELCO I Board.
PELCO I stands as an exemplary electric cooperative within Central Luzon recognized for its "Green" and AAA EC certification bestowed by NEA.
With a sprawling reach across six municipalities and serving over 110,000 member-consumer-owners, PELCO I is championing the cause of renewable energy in alignment with the national government's ecological objectives.
The agreement with CREC represents a pioneering step for PELCO I, marking the initiation of their first embedded renewable energy facility.
