Sweden Resumes Funding For UN Agency Aiding Palestinians

Sweden has announced its decision to resume funding for the UN agency aiding Palestinians, joining other top donors like Canada and the EU, as reported by Menelaos Hadjicostis for the Associated Press (AP).

The reversal comes amid efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, which has faced widespread hunger following months of war. Sweden's funding decision follows similar actions by the European Union and Canada.

The UN agency, known as UNRWA, warns of potential collapse without sufficient funding, which would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.


Sweden's development minister Johan Forssell highlighted the acute needs in Gaza and emphasized increased transparency and stricter controls by UNRWA. Sweden plans to provide half of its promised $38 million funding for this year, with more to follow. This move further isolates Israel as more nations condemn its actions in Gaza.
