US President Donald Trump said recently that he plans to hold talks about the war in Ukraine in the coming days after his Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August failed to achieve a breakthrough, Jeff Mason and Steve Holland reported for Reuters .

Trump has been frustrated by his inability to halt the fighting, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, after initially predicting he would end the war swiftly upon taking office last January.
Trump said he would hold talks “in the next few days.”
A White House official added that Trump is expected to speak by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.
The French presidency said earlier Wednesday that several European leaders, including Zelensky and France’s Emmanuel Macron, would call Trump on Thursday afternoon.
That call was expected to follow a mostly virtual meeting hosted by France with some 30 countries to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine once a peace agreement with Russia is reached.
European leaders were also expected to denounce Moscow’s unwillingness to negotiate. Putin has shown little interest in ending the war despite voicing optimism with Trump during their meeting in Anchorage on August 15.
