U.S. authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with a large-scale drug trafficking operation involving a sophisticated tunnel used to transport cocaine between Mexico and California, according to reporting by Mark Osborne for CBS News.

Federal officials say the tunnel stretched approximately 2,000 feet and contained reinforced walls, ventilation, electrical wiring, and a rail system used to move narcotics underground between border locations in Tijuana, Mexico, and Otay Mesa, San Diego.
Investigators linked the tunnel to a warehouse posing as a retail store. Authorities allege that more than a ton of cocaine, valued at over $45 million, was seized during the investigation.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that unusual activity at the warehouse, including limited customer traffic and unusual operational behavior, led to further surveillance and eventual discovery of the tunnel.
