Boeing Shares Fall After Plane Crashes In India

Shares of aircraft manufacturer Boeing fell in premarket U.S. trading on Thursday after an Air India plane carrying more than 200 people crashed near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city in western India, Shashwat Chauhan reported for Reuters.

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, according to Flightradar data. Reuters was unable to independently verify the make of the aircraft. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Boeing did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment regarding the crash of Air India Flight 171.
The plane was en route to Gatwick Airport in the UK, according to Air India. Local police said it crashed in a civilian area near the airport. Boeing shares dropped 7.8% to $197.30 in premarket trading.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that 244 people were on board, but no casualty figures had been released as of this report.
