COVID-19 Cases Decline 9% Worldwide But Up 26% In Asia

Despite a 9 percent drop in COVID-19 cases worldwide in the last week, the virus is soaring in Asia, with a 26 percent increase, including 200,000 cases for the first time in Japan.

According to Allen Cone for United Press International (UPI) on July 25, 2022, deaths were down 4% and remain among the lowest since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.


Japan recorded 176,554 illnesses on Sunday for a total of 11,389,392 infections, ranking 11th with 200,975 on Saturday. In Greece, which ranked 31st place, there were 25 deaths for a total of 31,915 people.

The number of fatalities in the previous week was 12,664. The daily average is 1,809, with the most recent low of 1,235 on July 4, 2020, the lowest since March 21, 2020, or 10 days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic.

The total is 6,402,751, with 1,068 on Saturday and 1,025 on Sunday, July 4, compared to 914 on Sunday, June 12, the lowest since 878 on March 17.


Japan had the highest instances in the previous week, with 881,791 cases, a 74 percent increase. Other countries with more than 25,000 cases increased in the last week: South Korea 85 percent with 424,765, Peru 24 percent with 88,914, Iran 85 percent with 46,595, Russia 56 percent with 39,100, Indonesia 45 percent with 32,858, and Serbia 79 percent with 25,753.

The United States recorded the second highest cases, 739,635 but saw a 19 percent drop, followed by Germany at 638,142 and a 5% drop, France at 539,320 and a 24% drop, and Italy at 530,148 and a 21% drop.
