The White House earlier this month ordered the Department of Defense and NASA to compile details on billions of dollars in contracts awarded to SpaceX, following a public spat between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, four sources familiar with the directive told Marisa Taylor and Joey Roulette of Reuters.

The administration’s directive has triggered an ongoing review of Musk’s federal contracts, as officials prepare potential retaliatory measures against the billionaire and his companies, according to the sources.
As Reuters also reported, Pentagon officials are separately considering whether to limit SpaceX’s role in a new U.S. missile defense system currently under development.
It remains unclear whether the White House intends to cancel any of the roughly $22 billion in active federal contracts with SpaceX.
However, the review signals that Trump’s administration is acting on his threat—made during last week’s fallout with Musk—to reconsider public funding and business ties to the tech mogul’s ventures.
“We’ll take a look at everything,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on June 6. A White House spokesperson declined to comment on specific contracts but said the “Trump administration is committed to a rigorous review process for all bids and contracts.”
